Here in North Wiltshire we are trying to do what we can to help householders to help the Environment by providing as much recycling resource and information as possible.

The District Council have recently launched a new initiative for food waste, with Food Digesters offered at discount prices subsidised by the council. Click the link below for more information:

They have also started a scheme for collecting ‘Green Waste’ this is done with a fortnightly collection of waste stored in ‘Brown Bins’ at a cost of £25 a year for one bin and £35 a year for two.

 

What You can recycle

  • Grass
  • Leaves
  • Pruning
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Tree & Shrub clippings
  • Cut flowers
  • Straw and Sawdust & shavings
  • Uncooked vegetables and peelings
  • Fruit waste
  • Teabags (that have not been in contact with milk)

There are also Household Recycling Centres throughout Wiltshire, enabling us to recycle even more from our homes.

The Household Recycling Centres take the following:

  • Car batteries, tyres and engine oil
  • Rubble and soil
  • Garden waste
  • Plastics - only ones with the numbers 1, 2 and 3
  • Cardboard
  • Tins of paint
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Steel and aluminium cans and tins
  • Textiles, clothes, curtains, blankets and shoes
  • Newspapers, junk mail, white paper, magazines and yellow pages
  • Fluorescent light tubes
  • Metals and timber
  • White goods
  • Pesticides and chemicals

Kerbside Recycling

Kerbside Recycling is a scheme operated in conjunction with Wiltshire Waste Partnership and Wiltshire County Council's disposal and recycling contractor - Hills Waste

The Black Box Scheme is for the collection of 5 materials

  • paper
  • glass
  • cans
  • textiles
  • foil

What you CAN put in your kerbside box:

  • Newspaper, magazines, catalogues, junk mail, white printer paper.
  • glass bottles and jars
  • all food and drinks cans
  • textiles, clothes, pairs of shoes, leather belts/handbags, blankets.
  • clean aluminium foil e.g. yoghurt tops, take away food containers.

What you CANNOT put in your kerbside box:

  • plastic bottles
  • cardboard, envelopes, yellow pages
  • flat or broken glass
  • duvets, pillows
  • shiny metallic plastic e.g crisp & peanut packets.

 

Unfortunately we are currently unable to offer this service to some of the more rural and remote parts of the district. We are working closely with Hills Waste to increase the coverage where possible.
